Internships. September-November for study abroad internships for winter term. This is also the best time to contact organizations if you are lining up your own job. November 1: Deadline for summer U.S. State Department internships. January-April: deadlines for study abroad internships for spring, summer, fall terms. IAESTE, American-Scandinavian Foundation (engineering and sciences), CDS Congress-Bundestag Program (Germany). March 1: Deadline for State Department internships for fall semester. July 1: Deadline for State Department internships for spring semester.
Short-Term Paid Work Abroad. Apply in the fall term for International Cooperative Education Program paid summer internships. Apply three to four months in advance for InterExchange and other placement programs. Apply one month in advance for BUNAC and CIEE Work Permit programs.
Volunteering Abroad. Apply at least nine months in advance for Peace Corps and other long-term volunteer programs; apply in March-May for short-term “workcamps.”
Teaching English Abroad. Apply at least nine months in advance for Peace Corps; October for Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship positions; December for major TESL programs in Asia, including JET, Princeton-in-Asia; January-March for various other TESL programs, but best to apply early.
